Six years we spent in our first house, and one thing that I never got around to doing, and regret hugely, was displaying more family photos. I’m not going to make that mistake this time around.
Only problem is, I don’t have any!
How many of you out there find yourself missing from pictures of family/friends, because it’s YOU taking the pictures?
*raises both hands*
I love taking photography, especially when I travel, but as I look back on all the images I’ve taken of my daughter since she was born (and wow there are so many), there are absolutely none of the the three of us: our little family unit.
I’m about to start adding gallery walls around the home, after living for so very long in renovation in our old house, and I truly missed having personal touches which included “us” around the house. I want to rectify that here in our lovely new home. The plan is to start with some investment pieces of art, the addition of prints which support more local artists, and a collection of good, quality family photos.
An Overdue Family Photoshoot
Last month, by pure coincidence, I was contacted by a company called Travelshoot. It’s a service which connects travellers with photographers around the world. The idea is to make sure that everyone in your party, whether it’s a family on holiday or a bunch of gals on a hen do, get featured in the pictures, with all the sightseeing backdrops you want!
We were offered the chance to trial out the service and be the face of the brand for the Manchester launch. I jumped at the chance to finally get some pictures worthy of the wall!
The Manchester Photographer
When you’re parents of a toddler obsessed with gymnastics and extreme sports, it becomes quickly apparent that any city is just a challenge; a new playgym to be clambered on. This leaves us with little time for pulling out the camera, and more time spent dedicated to arms wide open ready to catch! Having someone with us on this particular adventure was such a luxury, silently snapping natural moments as they arose.
We walked with Emma, our assigned photographer, for around 2 hours, chatting as if we’d known each other for years (and by total coincidence about our little town – turns our we’re pretty much neighbours!).
She caught Luna being her usual mischievous self hopping over bike bars, and launching herself off urban structures. Emma did a wonderful job of getting us pictured together, with some great backdrops which were immediately identifiable as Manchester.
So who’s it for then?
Well after so long ploughing money into our family home through renovations and decorating, we’ve decided that travel has fallen down the priority list for too long, so over the next 12 months we have trips planned for Poland, Norway and Italy (alongside house changes, don’t worry we’re still cracking on a little every day!) – meaning we make the PERFECT example when a service like this comes in handy – after all, family selfies are nice but they don’t always make the cut for the wall do they? I’m so excited to get more travel-inspired souvenirs for our home and the photos that I know I’ll treasure for a long time.
Full disclosure: I’m under no obligation to write this post. I donated my time to help launch the Travelshoot service free of charge, and in return I gained images of my family which I’ve yearned for for so long. We were gifted a discount code from Cheerz which I’m incredibly grateful for. I only ever share brands I’m happy to recommend so get shooting!
