Midway through 2014, Bedroom 3 as it was then known, looked like this.
We’d had the exciting news that our first baby was on the way, and in a few short months we had this room plastered and painted white in ancipation of becoming the nursery.
In fact, following this picture we replaced the skirting board and added a picture rail. It has been painted a beautiful blue. We’ve added a lovely neutral grey carpet. And now, we’ve added furniture, and a few finishing touches. By November, the room was ready, and at the end of that month I gave birth to our beautiful daughter, Luna.
The room isn’t the largest nursery you’ll find on the internet, and last year I wasn’t 100% convinced that it would be big enough.
But it is.
With clever storage and organisation, we’ve crammed a heck of a lot in there. Now that we’ve added a few personal touches and found homes for her gifts from very generous family and friends, I’m just so in love with the little space we’ve created for her.
Want to take a look around? Here it is.
(I’ll try and mention where most of the items are from, but please ask in the comments if I’ve missed anything!)
Pink cabinet – Ikea.
Can’t get over this teeny tiny dressing gown which matches mine. Hung on a coat rack from Ikea which I painted stripes on using leftover paint samples from other rooms (Craig & Rose in Chalk White and Valspar’s Bottlefly Wings if you’re curious).
Wicker chair from Ikea. Moustache cushion from Not On The High Street. Teddies gifted from family.
Grey storage baskets from Matalan. Fab for keeping toys and blankets organised.
Ikea spice racks painted in white gloss to match the skirting board, perfect for displaying children’s books – the hack of all modern nurseries it seems! As Luna’s collection grows, we’ll keep her favourite bedtime stories on display here.
Cotbed – John Lewis. Lampshade – handmade.
Fitted sheets in chevron pink and white – Mamas and Papas. Blanket – gifted from Luna’s lovely great great auntie.
Picture frames – Ikea. Dr. Seuss imagery handmade by me.
Music boxes – both gifted.
(Reminder to self, add photos to the merry-go-round!)
Stars & moon mobile – handmade by my lovely sister, Natasha. On the back of the owl, the name Luna is stitched.
Changing dresser – John Lewis. Curved changing mat – Mothercare. Box shelves – B&Q. Blanket – hand knitted by Joe’s mum.
Drawer organisers – Ikea.
Money jar – gifted. This cork was also gifted. It was from a bottle, of which the toast was to Luna. We’ve been told that by adding a pound to the bottle’s cork, it will bring good luck. Such a thoughtful token from parents of our brother-in-law.
Teeny little cactus plants – you guessed it, Ikea.
Paddington Bear collectible teddy – gifted.
Rainbow and name decoration – gifted.
HOW CUTE IS THIS ROOM? It’s bursting with colour and with love and personality. It’s most definitely a baby’s room, whilst – in my opinion – not being an unwelcome place for adults either. In fact, it’s my favourite room in the house and there is no place I’d rather be when it’s time for a night feed.
What do you think? Do you like it?
