In February, Joe and I made a decision that during 2013, we would make sure we got started on the huge project that is our kitchen renovation. You can read what I said here.
Although it doesn’t technically count as a New Year’s resolution (despite it being a whole lot more creative than the standard “lose weight” and “get healthy”) it really was our primary goal for the year in terms of the house.
I thought, with 2013 now behind us, it would be a great opportunity to see how far we made that goal a reality. And I’m really pleased to show you how far we’ve come.
First, let’s see what the kitchen looked like in February, when I made that announcement.
Pretty sexy, eh?
After an extension across the back of the house, numerous delays in construction, and living in a house which was most of the time an obstacle course, I think we’ve done alright.
Below, is a sneaky look into the computer designs we were given to illustrate the layout of our kitchen, and comparing it to how our kitchen looks today.
You can see that it’s still a bit messy what with our fridge and washing machine banged in the middle of the room, soon to be integrated and hidden. Also, the flooring and worktops aren’t exactly what we asked for. They’re just there for layout purposes.
BUT, you may also notice that some of the units are starting to go into place as they’re being unpacked. It may take a bit of imagination but you can really see the reality matching up to the layout designs. Joe spent our last day off work over the Christmas holidays giving the whole room a base coat of white emulsion. And boy, does that make a difference! Already it’s starting to feel cleaner.
I’m really proud of 2013 and what we’ve done. Sure, it’s taken a heck of a lot longer than expected, and I’d be lying if I said there haven’t been days where I just wanted to pack up and move. In fact, scrap that, I wouldn’t even need to pack because our life is in boxes! Needless to say, it’s been a really exciting ride which I’m so glad we took the plunge on. And soon – really soon – it’s going to be all done, and all ours.
